This program brings together major works for cello and piano inspired by different well-defined folklores. Martinu is one of the most illustrious representatives of Czechoslovakian culture. He composed his variations H.378, in Switzerland, as a kind of testament. Based on a theme from the folk song ""If I had known"", these variations creatively take us to the heart of a fascinating culture. Grieg is a great advocate of traditional Norwegian music. His sonata Op. 36 describes the landscapes of his native land with great subtlety. A playful work that transports us with its generous romantic impulses. Brahms' Hungarian Dances need no introduction. Piatti, a great cellist of the 19th century, has given us a virtuoso, breathtaking transcription of this masterpiece. A unique opportunity to hear three of these dances arranged for cello and piano. Finally, Piazzolla and Ginastera, two famous ambassadors of South American classical music. Piazzolla takes us into the intimacy of a milonga, while Ginastera takes us to the famous Argentine pampas, where it's easy to imagine gauchos proudly riding their wild horses. As if to complete the circle, Martinu and Ginastera both ended their lives in Switzerland, one in Liestal, the other in Geneva. A program that's sure to take your breath away, with its subtle, nuanced colors!
